Members monitor parish-wide athletic activities and gym usage, ensuring that all coaching and outfitting needs are met. The committee also sponsors fund-raisers throughout the year.
The Athletic Association of Our Lady of Lourdes was created in order that the youth of our parish may be given the best opportunity for well organized, programmed, equipped and supervised athletics and recreation. Officers, committee heads, coaches and managers should see through the uniform to the soul of the child, realizing that such a program is ultimately for the purpose of training the character of youth and helping them to grow in union with Christ. Through this program, youth learn respect for authority, team play, and fairness in play, so as to carry these with them into later life.
Specifically, the purposes of the organization are:
The Athletic Association is an organization that promotes sports throughout the grade school and high school levels. We sponsor several events through the year as well as seven major sports. The sports are soccer, volleyball, basketball, baseball/softball, golf, chess and track. All are welcome to join our organization. Meetings are held on the third Tuesday of the month at 7:30 p.m. Look at the school calendar for specific dates.
In order to make all activities run properly, we need the support of our parents. They can volunteer as coach, assistant coach or business manager. Also, all parents must sign up for a class activity on book day. Kindergarten through second grade will work the Fish Fry in March. Third through fifth grade will sign up for the Back to School Barbecue and the Beer and Grill booth at the Carnival will be staffed by sixth through eighth grade parents.
OLOL GYM MANAGER NEEDED:
Are you looking for a way to get involved with OLOL sports? Would you like to be a member of the OLOL Athletic Association? Consider becoming the Gym Manager for volleyball and basketball. These 2 sports have very similar responsibilities in terms of the gym coordination, so we have created this position to assist the current volleyball and basketball czars. Volleyball season runs from September-November and basketball season runs from January-March. These volunteer positions and our sports programs cannot happen without the support of our school parents.
Please contact Erin Klein email@example.com or Bob Grunzinger firstname.lastname@example.org with questions or if you are interested.
Prior to each season, gather and confirm referees, scorekeepers and timers. This includes confirming past workers and reaching out to the current 8th grade class. Assist them in registration and completing all required CYC paperwork and requirements. Create a referee/scorekeeper/timer schedule for all OLOL home games and send reminders each week.
Coordinate and schedule who will set-up/break down gym each week for games during the season. This is usually 2 high school students who split the commitment. Set up is typically Friday after school and break down is following the last game.
Ensure that supplies (first aid kit, volleyballs/basketballs, scorecards, gym binder, etc...) are stocked and in good order before the start of games each week.
Once CYC has scheduled games at OLOL, coordinate GYM MONITOR DUTY per team. Create a schedule with each team responsible for 1-2 weekends of gym monitoring.
Collect all scorecards from each home game each weekend and submit to the CYC Sunday evening/Monday morning via email.
Attend the monthly OLOL Athletic Association meetings (year round) and the CYC monthly meetings as needed during the season.
This position does not require you to be at the gym each weekend overseeing everything, but available by phone if the workers or coaches require assistance during home games.
OLOL GYM USAGE
If you would like to schedule the gym for practices, etc., please contact Meg Turpin, email@example.com. Requests must be made within 24 hours of your desired time slot. Click the gym schedule below to view the calendar.
